Luke Campbell
Session Musician
BA (Hons) in Professional Musicianship (Drums) alumnus, Luke Campbell, is a perfect example of someone taking advantage of the connections they’ve made at BIMM Music Institute, mixing them with their incredible talent, putting in a whole load of hard work, and coming out on top by landing a series of career-defining gigs.
Luke did just that when he used his connection with BIMM Music Institute Brighton graduate and Two Door Cinema Club session drummer, Ben Thompson, to help him land an audition as percussionist for up-and-coming funk singer-songwriter, Clarence Clarity. His link with Ben may have got his foot in the door, but he still had to show he had what it takes in order to secure the job, and that’s where his impressive skills and technique came in – it goes without saying that he passed the audition with flying colours!
The Clarence Clarity band is supporting Mercury Prize nominated London soul collective, Jungle, on tour, with performances in Portsmouth, Bristol, Oxford, Liverpool, Edinburgh, Manchester, Sheffield, Nottingham, Brighton, Leamington Spa, Norwich and London. They’ll also be cementing their success after their London Roundhouse gig with a BBC Radio 1 live session at Maida Vale Studios with Huw Stephens.
Luke is no stranger to getting himself out there and working hard. After only four weeks at BIMM, he was chosen to perform on the ITV show ‘This Morning’ playing drums for 2013 Britain’s Got Talent finalist and singer-songwriter Gabz. Other past achievements have included playing piano on a cruise ship for six weeks over the summer, performing with 14-year-old Bailey McConnell in the 2014 Britain’s Got Talent Semi-Final, being a member of Casablanca Jazz Club Brighton’s soul and funk house band, Oomphf, and playing drums in his own originals band, The Raccoons, who’ve supported Groovesonix in the past – a band featuring members of Jamiroquai.
You can now find Luke drumming up a storm in Jazz-fusion trio, HOWES3, whose debut album is incredible – a must-listen for any music fan.
Whatever’s next for Luke, we know he has a bright future ahead of him.
