Zara McFarlane
Artist
What a remarkable few years BIMM London graduate Zara McFarlane has had: she’s released two albums of her unique, soulful jazz to critical acclaim; has toured the world and topped it all by winning a MOBO!
Dagenham-born Zara won Best Jazz Act at the 2014 MOBOs, which was the perfect recognition of an incredible year, which included rave reviews in the Guardian and the New York Times and the 2014 Album of the Year award from the highly-respected Arts Desk.
She’s got a work ethic to go with her achievements and recognition: performing all over the USA, gigging at a bewildering array of European summer festivals, with highlights including performances at the London Jazz Festival and Glasgow Jazz Festival.
She’s also signed to one of the world’s coolest record labels in the renowned DJ Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Recordings, and has released four albums with the label.
Zara has clearly taken to heart the advice we teach all BIMM students: network hard, and build a trusted team around you. The Jazz world is currently Zara’s oyster — and we’re all looking forward to watching her wow even more music lovers!
