Dublin Graduate Attends 60th Grammy Awards with PR Firm

BIMM Dublin graduate Niamh White recently attended the 60th Grammy Awards ceremony at Madison Square Garden, New York City in association with The Baylor Project – a duo who were nominated for two GRAMMY Awards!

After graduating with a BA (Hons) in Commercial Modern Music – Songwriting in 2016, Niamh moved to New York City and began interning for a Jazz PR agency by the name of Lydia Liebman Promotions. She interned at this company throughout 2017, and just before the end of the year, received news of The Baylor Project (a client who she personally worked with very closely) being nominated for two GRAMMY Awards – Best Jazz Vocal Album for their debut “The Journey” and Best Traditional R&B performance for their single “Laugh and Move On”).

We asked Niamh to explain how she found herself in such a prestigious position.

“In 2014, I had the unbelievable opportunity to jam with Beyoncé’s tour band in Dublin, with fellow BIMM students. Since then, I made sure to keep in contact with saxophonist for the band, Adison Evans.

In 2016, when I first arrived in New York on a summer work Visa, I reunited with Adison, had a saxophone lesson and a chat, that at the time, I never would’ve expected to lead me to my current position. Adison put me in contact with NYC-based music publicist Lydia Liebman and the rest writes itself!”

Niamh’s experience highlights just how valuable and pivotal the networking opportunities at BIMM can be, which is why we fully encourage students to get involved in as many Masterclasses and Careers Experiences as possible.

 

We couldn’t resist asking for a few more details on what Niamh’s GRAMMY experience was like.

“Honestly, trying to sum up how it felt to be at the 60th GRAMMY Awards, associated with a doubly nominated artist is almost impossible.

I could say it was a dream come true but I never even dreamed that this would ever be a possibility for me. Attending literally the biggest night in music is HUGE – so much so that days later, it’s still difficult to fully comprehend. There are a few stand out moments of course – from seeing the biggest acts on today’s music scene perform live to spotting Jay Z, Beyoncé and Blue Ivy in the crowd to walking into the official GRAMMY after-party to find Nile Rodgers and Chic performing. But I think if I had to choose one specific ‘pinch myself’ moment, it would be stepping out of a black SUV in a pretty ball gown and heels, directly onto the Red Carpet at Madison Square Garden – INSANE.”
